Her lines of research are focused on the integration of current technologies of EEG, IO and analysis of big data to create intelligent homes and also on advanced techniques of traffic monitoring using inductive sensors.

She is co-author of more than 80 articles in international journals and conferences of the highest prestige in the field of electrical engineering. In 2007, she received the award for the best paper at the ITG/IEEE International Workshop on Smart Anennas in Vienna. She was member of the Program Committee of more than 20 conferences in that field, and of the Organizing Committee in one of them. She is also co-author of a chapter in a book. She has advised three doctoral theses and two of her former students are professors or assistant professors at UDC and UV, respectively. She has a national patent. Professor Castro has been member of the Electronic and Communications Technology research group (GTEC) since 2002. With it, she has participated in more than 30 research projects financed by regional, national and European level. She has also participated in more than 20 technology transfer contracts with major companies in the ICT sector (Indra, Telefonica R & D, ATOS Origin, ...). In total, her research group has captured for UDC more than 6.5 million euros, which has allowed the recognition of GTEC by the Xunta de Galicia as a Competitive Reference Group in 2012, 2016 and 2020.
